Guys being guys, we spend an inordinate amount of time with women – women who are gorgeous as they’re witty – only because we love milking their brains on the things that would win them (and their hot friends) over.

And who are we kidding? They simply make damn good company.

Take for instance, MTV darling Hanli Hoefer, who’d since become a most recognisable face and voice for MTV and Power 98FM respectively. She’s got no lack of YOLO-ing to accomplish with her TV hosting, globetrotting aspirations and contemplating if there’s really a need for a pet dragon on her YouTube series, KTCHN UP. The contemplations don’t end there; she hot-seats our 5-Minute talk this week and goes from KTCHN to MANNING – UP.

What is Hanli all about?

I’m a Singaporean mixed German chick. My Mom is a quintessential Nyonya foodie who is also a writer, and my dad is a well traveled german dude who made his living as a publisher.

The household I hail from is filled with art, books, antique knick-knacks and lots of life. I’m someone who prefers being outdoors and I’m all about day-dreaming, discovering new music and making travel plans.

Big upcoming plans for the wanderluster in you?

Yes! I just booked a mini getaway to Europe. I’ll be spending a few days in my favourite city, London, followed by an exciting weekend in Paris with my Parisian girlfriends. Then, it follows with a short stint in Barcelona to drown myself in tapas and flamenco.

If you were a city…

I think I would be New York in the spring time.

Being well traveled, which place in particular left an indelible impression on you in terms style and grooming you see on men over there?

I returned from Seoul recently and I’m still swooning over how well put together everyone there is. Men are just as well groomed as the ladies. They aren’t afraid to wear cc cream and style their hair like a K-pop star.

The men’s fashion ranges from something out of a Muji lookbook to cool indie streetwear tees and denim.

Seriously Man is a big advocate for effortless handsomeness, as evident in our guy guides (or Guydes, if you will). What’s an easy, immediate style fix to look good?

Buy clothes that fit. Baggy clothes are so early 2000s and should stay there. In fact, get all your shirts tailored.

Most important grooming weapon for guys?

Carry around a cool handkerchief. I understand that Singapore is hot AF but that doesn’t mean you should show up at places sweating like crazy!

Carry a handkerchief in your back pocket and keep yourself looking fresh. I also would suggest investing in a good aftershave that smells crisp and clean.

What get-up do you dig on a guy?

I like guys who rock classic streetwear. Well fitted pants, high top sneakers or chelsea boots, a crew cut t-shirt in neutral colours or a classic Fred Perry polo, minimal jewellery like a bracelet or chain. If we’re talking outerwear, make it a bomber jacket or a slightly oversized denim jacket. You know, dudes that dress like Jonah Hill or G-Eazy.

What man skill can have one ooze sexiness?

Ride a motorcycle. I’m not talking about some cute Vespa either, I mean a real beefy Harley Davidson or a BMW Cruiser. That’s sexy.

If you could have any male special guest on an episode of your YouTube series KTCHN UP, who would it be?

JASON MOMOA. Or if he is too busy, Chris Pratt – he seems cool.
