Consciously or not, every man wants to be handsome. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out the kind of unfair advantage that good looks gives one in life, and that is made even more so by our hyper digitalised lifestyles (i.e. recording higher rate of right-swipes). Numerous studies have suggested that attractive people are more inclined to receive preferential treatment in areas of dating, relationships, career, finances, family and general luck, and they also tend to play the ‘get out of jail free’ card to greater success when caught in sticky situations.
Why wouldn’t any man want to be the head honcho of handsomeness?
On the other hand, there are reports that also suggest being too good looking can backfire on you. While there is some kernel of truth in it, ‘too much of a good thing’ is a much better problem than not having anything good to begin with, such as being dealt bad genetic luck.
That said, there is more to a man’s handsomeness than perfect bone structures and bespoke suits. It has to come from within, as well as from this divine list of 10 commandments that captures the art and science, the yin and yang of looking polished AF.
(Editor’s note: Achieving handsomeness is just a means to an end, not the end. Know that you are an everyday work in progress.)
Thou shalt deep cleanse, moisturise and slather sunblock.
Thou shalt have a Guy (or Gal) for monthly hairstyling needs.
Thou shalt seek a signature fragrance to smell like a million bucks.
Thou shalt manscape.
Thou shalt have one tailored suit in the wardrobe, at least.
Thou shalt don only apparels of the perfect fit.
Thou shalt not underestimate the power of shoes to maketh the man.
Thou shalt err on the side of caution and embrace the Fantastic Four of Colours: White, Black, Navy, Grey.
Thou shalt take yourself less seriously.
(Note: Learning to laugh at yourself, even in the face of a shitstorm, is irresistible.)
Thou shalt socialise in the company of savvy, attractive men.
(Note: You are only as handsome as the five Bros you spend the most time with.)
